I am here for you.
I mean this in several different ways. In perhaps the most obvious of ways, I am here to listen to you, bear witness to your life, and support you as you move toward your goals. I am here to offer and hold hope for you as it is essential to life. I am also here because of YOU! I spent 11 years pursuing my dream of becoming a psychologist and, in the years since, refining my approach to therapy, learning numerous evidence-based interventions, and experiencing the ultimate honor of witnessing transformation in people's lives. There is no greater profession than this!
My approach to therapy is based on the belief that people are born with the natural capacity to heal themselves. To that end, my job is to help facilitate the healing process through support, the therapeutic relationship, and use of therapeutic interventions. I use a combination of evidence-based approaches to help people develop self-awareness and insight, heal from trauma, celebrate/use their strengths, improve relationships, navigate complex and oppressive systems, develop coping mechanisms, and reduce symptoms that negatively impact their lives. I value the impact of cultural factors and incorporate an understanding of systemic barriers, privilege, and oppression into my work.
My specialty areas include anxiety, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, interpersonal difficulties, trauma, college student mental health, adjustment issues, multicultural concerns, depression, stress management, grief/loss, women’s issues, and family of origin concerns. I have completed Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training and am working on becoming certified in this approach for trauma. I have also received basic and advanced training in postpartum mood and anxiety disorders and this is a special area I hold near and dear to my heart. Finally, I have worked in university-based counseling centers since 2006 so I have quite a bit of knowledge and experience in treating college students. If you think that we would be a good fit to work together, please request an appointment or call me directly. Looking forward to meeting you!
